Description

Earlier this February my friends @Marcel Drechsler, @Xavier Strottner, @Peter Goodhew, @Sven Eklund, and @Andreas Zirke posted an incredible quadruple discovery image of the Northern part of Cygnus. I did my own follow-up survey of the general region, and have added two new nebulae to the field, Falls 2 and OO2.

For detailed descriptions of the other objects in the field, please read the post from february.

Falls 2 is a potential PN candidate, however its CSPN is a hot subdwarf type star with a cold temperature of around 8,000k. This means it could more likely be ISM than a true PN. A closeup of this candidate can be found here.

OO2 is a bit more of a perplexing object. It is a clear semi-enclosed Oiii envelope. However it contains no CSPN or progenitor star. The question remains, what could form this object? Nobody knows! Due to this lack of CSPN, registration on PNnet is not possible. I talked around with people to see if I could register the object in some other way and found it to not be possible. So I've decided to do the registration myself, and I have created a new catalog for Oiii objects lacking a CSPN star. The catalog is "OO" standing for "oxygen object", and this is the second entry.

You may also notice at the very bottom left of the field, there is an Oiii nebula which is a cataclysmic binary candidate, that I think was discovered in 2020.

Capture was done from SRO over the month of June.

This field is a good reminder that what is often considered empty space, is often not empty at all!
